Studio Tour!

Studio Tour!

So it's been precisely 1 year since I got my studio painted and I've spent the last 11 months or so moving back in, slowly buying frames and getting my pictures up on the walls; and generally obsessing over salon hanging the big wall pictured above and below!

I wanted to get some photos taken to capture the new space and asked the lovely Diana to came over who took these brilliant photos that really illustrate the pistachio vibe of the space. She also gave me the idea for a studio tour blogpost;

So here we are! I've been in this space; our spare room since 2017 and I love it as it has a gorgeous pitched roof and I hate it because it's freezing in the winter and stifling in the summer but Virginia Woolf was right that a room of one's own is what you need to pursue your creative dreams!

I've got a window on one end and Elfa shelving for stock and storage on the other then in-between there's my new; smaller computer desk, I kept my standing desk top which sits on adjustable Ikea trestle legs where I do my drawing and packing, a mustard made locker which fits most of my packing materials and a Tylko shelf for books and bits!

I've always been so grateful for this space and more generally owning our own home since we were in our early 20's which was entirely down to inheritance and has given us such a stable base. I doubt whether I'd have ever been able to leave my work in textile design without it as London is not an easy city to rent in!

I chose to go with lots of vertical storage solutions to save space so you can see A6 prints and cards are stored on the back of my door in this rack (I should have sized up as it doesn't fit my cards once packed with envelopes but it's still super useful and I spray painted it to banish the grey) I also made use of my baskets that I designed in collaboration with the Basket Room on the shelving which you can see below.

Most importantly I wanted to get lots of my art up on the wall together the risograph prints alongside the silk screen prints so that I can see them all at once and feel clear about where I've been and where I'm going with my work. There's also a scattering of inspiration bits like vintage signage or seed packets amongst my work. It was really fun curating it and I'm planning on swapping pieces out for new designs to keep it fresh!

Best new addition goes to my cork board which I'm loving as I can change it up for each project and pin my risograph colour palettes for each project right in front of me.

I also had a lightbulb moment where I realised why I love the colour green so much; I looked out of my window this autumn and saw the leaves turning orange, they looked beautiful but I was sad knowing soon they'd be gone but I felt a wash of relief as my studio is still green so I still have that vivid reminder  of spring and summer!

I've always wondered why I'm so into green! Ultimately I wanted to be grateful to this space that has looked after me for so long and give it a bit of love and a refresh and that in turn has refreshed me so winner winner!

Thanks for reading Jacqueline x
